Last week I had chance to teach Standard 5th unit 6 My village’s function- pretask ‘‘ ‘s ” and asking question with ‘whose?’ The student I got were unable to understand Gujarati. Many of them were unable to write their name. To know each other before I start my class-demo lesson I thought to know each other. We played a game to introduce each other. It was in English and my students were getting confidence slowly slowly… Then we played game ‘How many…how many..”. I informed all about rules…in Gujalish( Gujarati-english mixed language). We played game and student came close to me. I we played, dance and played antaxari (with Gujarati-Hindi songs), smile and happiness were there on each and every student’s face. I got confidence and started teaching my function “asking question”. I started with a game called “Magic Box”. I took few things from students, kept in my magic box and told students to guess. If they were unable to find out answer I supported them by giving hint. It was all in English and I surprised that mostly students were replying in English. While playing guessing game “Magic Box” I tried to teach Pretask of Unit mMy village, my…, ‘s…, whose, yes…no… etc.It was unforgottable moments for me. I enjoyed it with all unknown students…
While teaching in our class I found that many teachers directly focus on main unit instead of following steps given in textbook. If we follow all steps of text book it can be easy to teach and make English easy for students. As I have experience of class room observation I found few teachers who start English teaching with Alphabets-abcd…It is wrong method. As per our text book of std.5th we introduce Alphabets fro day 12 during oral work-spoken practice.
We always say that we have activity base education and teach every thing with activities. We should ask our heart that while teaching how many activities we do? We also know that if we here we may forgette but if we do it – have experience we never forgette. We have to use more n more activities while teaching and clear concept. If you have saw ‘3 IDIOT’ try to make school like aamir’s school….
Dear teachers, its my humble request, please follow English textbook and see the result you get…While teaching English in std.5th to 7 th if you have any problem regarding technique, method, rhymes or activity you can contact your CRC-Cs or one of us me on 9724345313, Mr Rakesh Patel 9974598817, Mr Dharmesh Ramanuj 9824247651….Wish you good luck…
